about

Every child should know by now that from North America´s “Motor City” not only come pioneering new tracks nearly every day but that some of the most innovative DJs originate from there. In the late 80s there were travel companions of techno like Derrick May and Juan Atkins who, side by side to the ultimate radio cult-figure Electrifying Mojo, set new limits, whereas in the last few years a new generation of DJs stepped out of the these legends´ shadows. The two former Underground Resistance members Jeff Mills and Robert Hood are the most well-known DJs – apart from Carl Craig whose overwhelming DJ skills can be heard on the most recent DJ-Kicks – who rocked the planet´s clubs with their excellent sets. But it was a DJ and producer known only for the last two years who incidentally moved upwards with his unbelievable talents: CLAUDE YOUNG!

The Detroit heavy-weight is seen as a genious DJ among experts since long and the British magazine NME described his amazing dexterity as “…cutting it up, transforming tracks with creative touches into new interpretations on their original sound.”. Apart from his occupation as a DJ, which has brought him around the globe since, his productions for Utensil, Djax Up, Serious Grooves, Acacia and Frictional topped the cult-charts and his remixes for such different acts like Inner City, Scanner, Eddie “Flashin’ ” Fowlkes and Jacob´s Optical Stairway are milestones of this genre and a further proof of his musical open-mindness.

On his DJ-Kicks he mixes reduced master pieces by artists like Clark (Mark Bell of LFO), Maurizio (Basic Channel / Chain Reaction) and Japan´s new hope Akio Milan Paak with acid productions by Random XS or Surgeon just to top all this with cult tracks like his own “Acid Wash Conflict”. The fact that Claude Young still searches in the deepest underground and won´t forget his old pals is verified through the cooperation with Dopplereffekt (attention: cult factor 10!), Man Made and The Skinless Brothers. This extremely ambitious track listing features the crème de la crème of independent electronic labels like Planet E., Synewave, Djax, Fragile, Dirty House, Central, Puzzlebox or Downwards, turning Claude Young´s DJ-Kicks into a must for masters and connoisseurs.
